Artists of the Eighties, 1990s, and 2000s expanded this technique of self-criticism past excessive art to all cultural image-making, together with trend images, comics, billboards and pornography. After Greenberg, a quantity of necessary art theorists emerged, similar to Michael Fried, T. J. Clark, Rosalind Krauss, Linda Nochlin and Griselda Pollock among others. Though only initially intended as a way of understanding a particular set of artists, Greenberg’s definition of contemporary art is important to most of the ideas of art within the numerous art actions of the twentieth century and early twenty first century. Art has long been controversial, that’s to say disliked by some viewers, for all kinds of reasons, although most pre-modern controversies are dimly recorded, or utterly misplaced to a contemporary view.
Thus, the controversy continues as to what mode of aesthetic satisfaction, if any, is required to outline ‘art’. There have been makes an attempt by artists to create art that may not be purchased by the rich as a status object.
