Every Upcoming Jake Gyllenhaal Movie & TV Show

Summary

  • Gyllenhaal’s fresh interpretation in ‘Road House’ led to critical acclaim, surpassing the original.

  • Working with acclaimed directors like Michael Bay and Guy Ritchie has been rewarding for Gyllenhaal.

  • Gyllenhaal’s upcoming Guy Ritchie project is anticipated to be the most exciting among his upcoming films.

After an excellent performance in the popular new Road House remakes, Jake Gyllenhaal has an exciting batch of upcoming movies and shows to look forward to. In Road House, Gyllenhaal managed to achieve something many movie stars have failed at: successfully reprising a beloved character in a reboot. The late great Patrick Swayze played Dalton in the 1989 classic, yet Gyllenhaal’s fresh interpretation was one of the reasons for the Road House remake’s astounding critical acclaim, which even surpassed the original. With the movie’s widespread success, Gyllenhaal could be at the start of a movie hot streak.

Leading up to Road House, the actor’s movies have been mixed, barely scratching the surface of Jake Gyllenhaal’s best movies. In 2019, he made his superhero film debut, playing the villain Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. He’s returned to family-friendly movies twice since, with the poorly received animated films Spirit Untamed and Strange

Star Wars to Release Fewer Movies & TV Shows, Confirms Exec

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that fewer Star Wars movies and series will be produced in the future.

At Star Wars Celebration, there were several updates to the Star Wars timeline, including three upcoming films, the first theatrical releases since 2019.

Iger played a pivotal role in Star Wars going under the Disney umbrella when the company bought Lucasfilm in 2012.

Iger returned to the House of Mouse in November 2022 after a two-year run by former CEO Bob Chapek.

Originally, Iger was set to return until at least 2025, but now, his contract has been extended until the end of 2026. The ultimate goal is to find a proper predecessor for one of Earth’s biggest media and entertainment companies.

As Star Wars and other series across the board on Disney+ ramped up under Chapek, the company was losing over $1 billion on the streamer.

Plex Will Let You Rent and Buy Movies and TV Shows Starting Next Month

Plex is launching a store for users to buy and rent movies in February, the company’s executives told Low pass‘ Janko Roettgers at CES 2024.

Cord Cutters News later independently confirmed the news.

According to the report, “most studios” have “lined up for launch” and the service plans to launch a catalog soon after. The new store will also integrate with current Plex features like watchlists.

Plex is also planning more social features and a “significant redesign.” These features might build on the “Discover Together” tool the service released in November.

The store news comes after Plex laid off 20% of its staff in June amid a downturn in advertising. Plex — like many services — makes their revenue from ads. At the time, Plex said it wanted to be back in the positive cash flow range in the next 18 months.

Adding the option to buy and rent movies could help the service achieve profitability.

Plex, a private company based in Los Gatos, California, was formed back in 2009. Ten years later, the company launched a free ad-supported service which greatly attracted cord cutters. Since then, Plex has offered thousands of movies and TV-shows on-demand along with hundreds

‘Fall of the House of Usher’ Slams AI Writing Movies and TV Shows

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers from Episode 2 of “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” which debuted today on Netflix.

During an ’80s flashback in Mike Flanagan’s new horror series “The Fall of the House of Usher,” two characters have a decidedly contemporary conversation during which they discuss AI being used to write scripts.

In Episode 2, “The Masque of the Red Death,” during a scene which is set in 1980, the younger depiction of Roderick Usher (Zach Gilford) and his sister Madeline (Willa Fitzgerald) are talking about technology. The brilliant and devious Madeline opines on mathematics and technology, saying, “An algorithm is just a finite sequence of all defined instructions to solve a problem, or perform a computation. But, down the line, with computers, we could use them for anything. Financial markets, investments, predictive medical care. Hell, an algorithm could write movies and TV shows.”

Roderick looks skeptical and retorts, “Not well,” with Madeline making a chilling prediction: “You’ll see. Down the line we could mimic human consciousness.”

Although the scene was written and filmed well before the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, AI usage in Hollywood is one of the
