Beyoncé’s new album ‘Cowboy Carter’ is a statement against AI music

Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” has been out for only a few days, yet it’s already obvious that we’ll be talking about it for years to come — it’s breaking records across streaming platforms, and the artist herself calls it “the best music [she’s] ever made.” But in the middle of the press release for “Cowboy Carter,” Beyoncé made an unexpected statement against the growing presence of AI in music.

“The joy of creating music is that there are no rules,” said Beyoncé. “The more I see the world evolving the more I feel a deeper connection to purity. With artificial intelligence and digital filters and programming, I wanted to go back to real instruments.”

Beyoncé rarely does interviews, giving each of her comments about the new album more significance — these remarks are among several jumping-off points fans get to help them puzzle through each element of the album, and how they all fit together. So her stance on AI isn’t just a throwaway comment made in conversation with a reporter. It’s deliberate.

The central backlash against AI-generated art comes from the way this technology works. AI-powered music generators can create new tracks in minutes and emulate artists’ vocals to a

Carmen’s wife Amy posted news of the singer’s death on her official website. “It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” Amy Carmen wrote. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ reinforces her dedication to Black reclamation – and country music

Maria Sherman, The Associated Press

Published Thursday, March 28, 2024 9:54PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) – First, Beyoncé arrived at the 2024 Grammy Awards in full cowboy regalia – making a statement without saying a word. Then, during the Super Bowl, she dropped two hybrid country songs: “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” All of that heralded her latest album, “Act ll: Cowboy Carter,” out Friday.

As a Black woman reclaiming country music, she stands in opposition to stereotypical associations of the genre with whiteness. “Cowboy Carter” was five years in the making, a direct result of what Beyoncé has called “an experience that I had years ago where I didn’t feel welcome … and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” most likely a reference to a 2016 CMAs performance that resulted in racist backlash.

Fast forward eight years, and last month, she became the first Black woman to ever top Billboard’s country music chart. The “Cowboy Carter” doesn’t shy away from country: the track list has teased potential collaborations with Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson and includes a mention of the “Chitlin’ Circuit,” a Jim Crow-era network of Black entertainment

Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell Win Best Song Oscar for ‘Barbie’

Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell made Oscar history by becoming the two youngest two-time winners in Academy Awards history, as they picked up the best song trophy for a second time Sunday night for “What Was I Made For?,” their contribution to the “Barbie” soundtrack.

Eilish’s acceptance speech was punctuated with nervous laughter, as she thanked director Greta Gerwig. “I’m so grateful for this song and for this movie and the way it makes me feel,” she said. “This goes out to everyone who was affected by this movie.” She thanked her school dance and choir teachers (including one “Miss Teague, who didn’t like me but you were good at your job,” which brought a laugh from the Dolby Theater audience). She also thanked her “best friend Zoe for playing Barbies with me growing up.”

O’Connell added thanks to producer-star Margot Robbie, score composer-producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt “for making the song with us,” and
