Car design round-up: new logos, old names and succession planning | Articles

Welcome to this week’s round-up of car design stories in brief. Whether you’re actively celebrating Easter or simply enjoying some well-deserved time off, here are the key takeaways you might have missed, including future design strategies, revived trim levels and a rejected farewell to a much-loved supercar.

End of the line for Audi R8

The last R8 has rolled off the line in Germany, ending a story that began (officially) in 2007. Based on the Le Mans concept car showcased at the Frankfurt auto show in 2003 – created by exterior designer Frank Lamberty and interior designer Jens Sieber, among others – the R8 became an instant icon for the brand. The extroverted sideblades that so defined it were gradually toned down over the years, but each generation stayed largely true to the original design, progressing cautiously in line with modern trends around lighting, sharp lines and digital cockpits. The R8 does not have a direct replacement per se, but its closest relative in the portfolio would be the electric RS e-tron GT – a sedan.

Parents file $1.5M lawsuit after Quebec teacher accused of selling students’ artwork online

A group of parents has filed a lawsuit against a Montreal-area high school art teacher and his school board after students found their classroom artwork available for purchase on the teacher’s personal website last month.

The parents of 10 young students at Westwood Junior High School in Saint-Lazare, Que., an off-island suburb west of Montreal, filed the lawsuit for $1.575 million, or $155,000 per plaintiff plus punitive damages, against the teacher, Mario Perron, and the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) for alleged copyright infringement.

Edith Liard, one of the parents represented in the lawsuit filed in Quebec’s Superior Court Friday, said the incident turned her daughter off the idea of becoming an artist.

“My daughter loves art, always has been into art, and this year after everything happened, she said to me, ‘I don’t think I’ll do art next year,'” said Liard.

“I was surprised because she’s always been artsy at home before school, and she actually chose Westwood because of their arts program.”

Joel DeBellefeuille, another parent represented in the lawsuit, says while the amount of money sought might seem outrageous, it represents the scale of intellectual property infringement that took place.

“We requested $5,000 per artwork that

Calvin Harris Responds to Ultra Music Fest Criticism

Against better judgment and prevailing popular wisdom, and in spite of the fact that he’s massively wealthy and could very well spend his time doing literally anything else other than worrying about what a few Instagram haters think, Calvin Harris has read the comments. On Wednesday, the DJ and producer who wrote the omnipresent “We Found Love” for Rihanna and is in possession of multiple platinum plaques of his own, responded to criticism of his Ultra Music Festival appearance.

Within the comments of a largely positive post about the festival, one commenter gave his opinion: “Honestly thought this set was extremely underwhelming, gave it until 9:20 til I called it quits and went to svdden death.” Another commenter apparently added their own thoughts to the fracas but it’s no longer online.

Harris would not stand for such impudence.

In a response that showed equal contempt for the commenters, capital letters, and conventional punctuation, Harris wrote: “you expect me to play none of my songs? 3 songs since 2014 hmm how deep is your love – billion streams, this is what you came for – billion streams, my way – billion streams, slide – billion streams, feels – billion streams, one

Outrage as picture showing body of murdered hostage Shani Louk wins competition

A photograph from October 7 depicting Hamas terrorists with the half-naked corpse of German-Israeli Shani Louk has been awarded Team Picture Story of the Year, along with a collection of other graphic photos from the Israel-Hamas war, by the world’s oldest photojournalism award competition, sparking outrage online.

The Pictures of the Year award, run by the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism includes a Team Picture Story of the Year category which recognizes “the collaborative effort of a photography staff covering a single topic or news story.” First place was awarded to a selection of 20 photos from the Israel-Hamas war taken by Associated Press (AP) photographers.

The first photo in the selection was taken by Ali Mahmoud and depicts the horrific moment in which 22-year-old Louk’s body was transported in the back of a truck by Hamas terrorists. It is captioned: “Palestinian militants drive back to the Gaza Strip with the body of Shani Louk, a German-Israeli dual citizen, during their cross-border attack on Israel, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.”

The collection, which includes AP photos depicting both Israelis and Palestinians in

Upcoming New Video Game Movies and TV Shows: 2024 Release Dates and Beyond

Some may say we are in a renaissance of video game adaptations as we’ve been treated to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, another Sonic the Hedgehog film, and a TV series based on The Last of Us, and will soon be getting adaptations of God of War, Fallout, Ghost of Tsushima, and so many more. The best part? A lot of these look so much better than video game adaptations we’ve gotten in the past, and we’re here to gather all the latest details on the biggest ones in the works.

How many will actually make it through development and see the light of day remains to be seen, and only a fraction of these have actual release dates. But we’re watching these projects, and we’re tracking them!

For the purposes of this list, we classify a “video game movie” as an actual film adaptation of an existing video game, so something like Wreck-It Ralph (which is just a movie about video games) wouldn’t qualify. They don’t have to be faithful adaptations – they just have to be based on a real game.

Design News: Lightverse store showcases art of lighting, home-grown air purifier zaps viruses

The air indoors can sometimes be more harmful than the air outside, as airtight spaces can trap harmful airborne pathogens that are invisible to the naked eye.

Home-grown technology company FJ SafeSpace has unveiled an innovative solution that is a “breath of fresh air” for stale indoor spaces.

Launched on March 13, its new BioZone PhotoPlasma air purifier is inspired by nature in the way its cleaning process eliminates airborne threats such as bacteria, viruses and unpleasant odors.

Unlike traditional air purifiers, PhotoPlasma is said to zap contaminants using specialized ultraviolet rays. It also purifies the air in semi-ventilated spaces such as restrooms and older buildings.

FJ SafeSpace, which was founded by Mr Jay Choy in February 2023, uses Green Building Product sensors that are certified by the Singapore Green Building Council to analyze and enhance air quality.

Its PhotoPlasma technology is designed for homes, offices, gyms and hospitals.

The company’s holistic solutions, which are also energy-efficient, blend advanced sensing with PhotoPlasma patented air and surface disinfection technologies to make indoor environments healthier. It also ships its air purifiers to Malaysia and Thailand.

Information: Prices start at $488 for portable models and from $1,108 for the PuriZone home and office
